▣ june showers

June 28th, 2008

As many of you know, one of my favorite places to take seniors is Saltsburg.  It has a lot of variety in a small space.  There's the river, the nature trails, all of the old buildings, the stone work, the mill, and one of my favorite spots is the community garden.  The ladies of the Herb Society of Saltsburg  (please check out their website) volunteer countless hours in the hot sun maintaining several green spaces around town and along the canal.  A few weeks ago I decided to head over and see what was in bloom.  A huge rainstorm had just moved through and the sun came back out right at the end of the evening.

The historical society museum on Point Street.  The garden is located behind the museum on the right, you can just see the corner of it in this shot.

There are lots of roses that climb all over the gate and the fence rail.

The garden features much more than just flowers, there are many different kinds of greenery, vines, grasses, and herbs.

All of the plants in the garden are well marked and you can find maps for self guided tours in the mailbox behind the museum.  It's free and open to the public anytime.  It's a great place to see different plant life, (and the rabbit that hides in the flowers), and makes a good stop over if you're hiking the rail trail along  river.  You should check it out!

▣ Miranda & Matt 06.21.08

June 23rd, 2008

Miranda & Matt were married this past Saturday in Indiana, PA on the IUP campus.  Miranda is an Iraqi veteran who came home safely to marry the love of her life, Matt.  I have to admit, the first time she contacted me - Miranda was sitting at a computer at her post in Iraq where she was planning her wedding!  For all you ladies who are in the process of planning your own wedding and enjoying all of the excitement and stress that goes along with it - try to imagine pulling it off from a tent on the other side of the world!

Their ceremony was held at St, Thomas Moore University Parish in Indiana, PA

Matt the handsome groom outside before the ceremony.

Miranda was such a beautiful bride!

Sean caught this great shot of the men during mass.

Their wedding cake was covered in these beautiful lillies - the whole reception was filled with color.

Before we headed out to the reception hall we stopped at the Oak Grove on the IUP campus for some photos on the theater steps.

Another ring shot - I like them both for different reasons.

All the groomsmen celebrated with Matt on the patio with cigars and "guy talk".

Miranda's brother and his wife were so cute and so in love, their son Landen was the ringbearer.  Image by Sean.

Thank you Miranda & Matt for letting us be there on your big day!

▣ Renee & Mufutau 5.24.08

June 18th, 2008

Renee & Mufu had a beautiful wedding on May 24th 2008.  Renee and her mother met me at a bridal expo back in febuary and as luck would have it - we were still available for her date!  Since her reception was at Lingrow farm, she decided to spend the night before the wedding at the completely restored farmhouse on the grounds and get ready there the next morning.  Since she wasn't back yet from her hair appointment when I arrived, I had the rare and amazing opportunity to scope out the reception hall all decked out and untouched by the throngs of guests who would be there later.

I LOVED her shoes - and with a groom who's almost 7 feet tall you can wear heels all the time!!

They rented a Hummer limousine to transport the whole wedding party - 20+ people!!  from the church to the reception!

One very classy junior bridesmaid.

Sean caught this great moment of the flower girls marching around the lake.  They were so excited about their 'jobs' that day they were first in line for everything!

Renee's gorgeous diamonds!  Wow!

We headed outside after dinner to try and catch the softer evening light by the lake.

I love this shot!  So cute - he's carrying her flowers for her because the ground was squishy after a week of rain

▣ sam's senior pictures

June 15th, 2008

This week we traveled to Bushy Run Battlefield for Sam's senior pictures.  She was absolutely beautiful and up for anything!  We almost had a catastrophe with the weather.  While she was laying in the grass for these shots, the thunder was getting louder and louder and the black clouds were rolling in over head.  I broke out my umbrella in the high winds and did my best Mary Poppins impression.  After about 5 minutes the rain clouds passed right over us and we kept right on shooting.  Here's a sneak peak of her photos:

Thanks Sam!

▣ lingrow farm family portrait day

June 13th, 2008

We traveled to Lingrow Farm for portraits this past Sunday and were pleased to be joined by the Dilick's, the Vigna's and the Meighan's!  Lingrow Farm is an amazing spot for a wedding reception, reunion, or any event.  The main feature is the 1800s barn that was completely restored to be an elegant air conditioned venue with a touch of country class.  Since there was a graduation party at the barn that day, we decided to explore the grounds which have unlimited and awesome photo opportunities from the fields, to the lake, the farm house steps, there's tons to see!

The Meighan's were the last family of the day just before the sun set and are always fun to hang out with! - (I realize I'm posting these in reverse order, but I haven't quite got the hang of this blog interface yet, so bear with me).

This was the last shot of the day - and I LOVE it!!  He gave me a big 1-2-3 ta da!

He has the best personality too - full of energy and spunk!

Meet the Vigna's!  They were real troopers - in a massive display of unprofessionalism I was kind of squatting with one foot in the lake trying to get a good angle on the shot I was taking and my foot got stuck in the mud.  Not just kind of stuck - STUCK.  In fact, I was unable to get myself unstuck.  I had to hand the camera off and they were able to pull me out but when the mud let go of my foot it kind of slurped free and my shoe flung mud all over the place and my foot was somewhere in the middle of it.  I was SO EMBARASSED!!  They were great though and told me not to worry.

The girls were on the move!

This was such a great moment between brother and sister - she was running around all over the place but was so gentle with her baby brother.

Meet the Dilick family!  They were the first brave group of the day wiling to be out in the hot sun at 4pm with tons of humidity.  These brothers had a great time throwing pebbles in the lake and watching for the frogs.

I love this shot - we gave the boys a 5 minute break to play in the grass after all of the patient sitting still they had been doing.

Thank so much to all the families who came out and let me into your lives and into your family for the afternoon.  I can't think of a better way to spend the day !

I hope to see you all again soon!

▣ new blog

June 12th, 2008

Finally!  We've joined the real world and managed to get a blog up and running.  Thanks to John at Heritage Web Solutions for his patience, creativity, and expertise.  Especially patience - I was the typical woman asking him to change colors back and forth and nudge things around.  "What if we moved the couch over by the window?  Yes, just like that!  Well . . . unless we put the couch on that wall and the entertainment center in front of the window. . .  No, no I like the couch by the window.  What do you think?"  I should also thank him for not laughing at me when I wanted things "bluey-purple" or more "purpley".

Followed by: "What about red?"

I am please to report that our family portrait day at Lingrow Farm was a big success and I'll be posting more images soon!
