Susan & Chris | Laurel Highlands Wedding at Penn Scenic View

By June 6, 2015 No Comments

I thought today it would be cool today to dig back in the archives a little and wish Susan and Chris a happy anniversary!  Two years ago this weekend, they tied the knot in an outdoor ceremony in the Laurel Highlands at Penn Scenic View in Rockwood, PA.  It was a cool cloudy morning just like today.  When we arrived, the girls were getting ready in the chalet.   The property at Penn Scenic View is really gorgeous.  There’s a lake full of fish with a little island, lots of fields of tiny pine trees, a wood sided main lodge for receptions and on top of the hill you can see for miles!

Susan’s dress was a simple spaghetti strap sheath gown with lots of details and a little sparkle.

Susan brought along a teddy bear that has been with her since childhood.  We laughed when the phone rang with a message from one of the other cabins and talked about the hours us children of the 90’s had spent on a phone like that with a 12foot cord trailing down the hall to talk to our friends without our parents hearing.

Chris and his groomsmen spent the morning playing cornhole, hanging out, and fishing in the lake with the dads and the ring bearer.  The lake is filled with huge fish!

When everyone was dressed, Chris waited for Susan on top of the hill so that they could see each other before the ceremony and get some great photos.  He stood facing the view as Susan walked up behind him and touched him on the arm.

The groomsmen wore dark grey suits with boutonnieres wrapped in twine.  The girls wore short dresses and carried small pink bouquets.

They said their vows at the edge of the lake in front of a towering pine tree decorated with ribbons.

Reverend Dina McGee presided over the ceremony.

After dinner, we went back out at sunset for some photos of just the bride and groom.  (This is one of my favorite things to do when the reception is in a beautiful location – the lighting is softer, the mood is more relaxed, and your guests don’t miss you because they’re still eating!).

I lost a shoe to get this shot.  We sent Chris and Susan out onto the little island and I had to run around the other side of the lake to shoot across back at them.  In the process of my mad dash, I had to hop over a swampy area where the creek drains into the lake.  Well my hop was more like a leap a gazelle would make fleeing from a lion, but the bank on the other side was deceptively more squishy than it looked.  I spent the rest of the night with a soaked leg and soggy foot, but it was totally worth it for this shot!
